Do You Need It?

Repairing damaged credit is not easy. There are several credit repair scams and dubious companies on the internet. If you are considering undergoing credit repair with outside help, make sure you are dealing with a reputable company.

Perhaps you don’t know if you need credit repair at this time. There are a few steps you can take on your own to help you make this decision.

1) Contact all three credit reporting companies and ask for copies of your credit report. You should be able to find a listing in your local phone book but here is the national information:

Equifax—1-800-685-1111 website: www.equifax.com
Experian—1-888-397-3741 website: www.experian.com
TransUnion LLC—1-800-888-4213 website: www.transunion.com

If you go to one of the local offices, there will be agents who can help you understand the information provided on your credit report. Once you have your credit report in hand, you should check it for accuracy. Once you see all of your debts even ones you have forgotten about, add up the total amount due and that number might tell you if you need professional credit repair attorney’s help or not.

Another thing you can try is to contact all of your creditors and see if they are willing to work out some kind of deal. Creditors want to be paid and many times they will reduce the amount due on delinquent accounts in order to recoup some of the debt as opposed to facing recouping none of it. Good credit repair attorneys may be able to negotiate an even lower amount due than you can on your own. If your creditors are uncooperative, if they are demanding a burdensome payment plan or if they are being particularly nasty, you might be better off contacting a credit repair attorney to do some of the leg work for you.

Bottom line, if you are wondering if you need credit repair, you probably do. Credit repair attorneys will create a custom plan for your credit repair.
