Something For Free?

Usually when the word “free” is used in connection with “credit repair”, it’s a scam of some kind. For some reason credit repair draws the attention of every type of scam artist making the work of legitimate credit repair attorneys all the more difficult. However, in this situation, this is not a scam.

Experian, Equifax and TransUnion, the three credit reporting agencies, have pulled together in a joint effort to assist consumers. They’ve established a website “annualcreditreport.com” as means of encouraging consumers to keep an eye on their credit reports. Through that website you may request one free copy of your credit report from each of the credit reporting once every twelve months. If you are trying to determine if you need credit repair, reviewing your credit report might assist you in that decision.

If you already know that you need credit repair, then you know that reviewing your credit report once a year isn’t enough. Part of the process of credit repair does, in fact, include reviewing your credit report, but it also includes watching it and making sure that positive efforts are being recorded properly. Thorough credit repair includes devising a personalized plan and then changing that plan as events progress.

A part of a solid credit repair plan should include monitoring your credit report for at least a year and that doesn’t mean reviewing it once and calling it done. It would be nice if challenged entries instantly disappeared, but that is not the case. It takes time to properly and legally repair credit. Diligent follow through must be maintained and if erroneous entries are not corrected, then a credit repair attorney must pursue the matter.

Monitoring and challenging erroneous entries are not enough. Sometimes consumers have bad financial habits that must be addressed to prevent future problems. Credit management, money management, and credit repair all must work together to help consumers build a better future.
